Color Healing, Light
Therapy and Chromotherapy are all
terms used interchangeably with Color
Therapy, which is a set of principles
used to create harmonious color and
color combinations for healing. This
form of energy medicine is based on
the belief that the human body is
composed of energy fields. When the
energy is properly distributed and
circulating freely, the body is
healthy. Imbalances or abnormal
amounts of energy are believed to
indicate an excess or deficency. Color
is energy. The energy vibration of
that color is what you need, in the
moment, in order to improve and
balance your physical and emotional
state.
Using the
seven colours of the spectrum, Colour
Therapy aims to balance and enhance our
body's energy centres / Chakras and also to
help stimulate our body's own healing
process. Colour Therapy uses colour to
re-balance the Chakras (our energy centres)
that have become depleted of
energy.
Colors affect
moods and emotions. Color therapy uses this
sensitivity to color to identify and
correct any imbalances in the body's
internal energy patterns that might lead to
emotional or physical ill health.
Therapists believe that each organ and body
system has its own characteristic
vibrational energy, and disorders can be
healed by applying color of the
corresponding vibrational energy, either to
the whole body or to the organ concerned.
For example, the red spectrum affects our
physical energies. It is stimulating and
warming. Blues are cooling and cleansing,
affecting our spiritual energies. The
yellow shades serve to bridge them,
affecting our mental energies. The three
colors together provide opportunities for
healing our body, mind, and
spirit.
In 1942, the
Russian scientists have demonstrated that
red light stimulates the sympathetic
nervous system, while white and blue light
stimulate the parasympathetic nervous
system. Other experiments revealed that
certain colors stimulate hormone
production, while other colors inhibit it.
Specific colors can also have an effect on
specific diseases. Symptoms of acute
eruptive diseases such as smallpox and
measles were relieved when patients were
put in a room with red windows.
Melancholiacs also recovered after a few
hours in such rooms. Pain and depression
was found to respond well to therapy using
flashing bright lights and colored lights.
These treatments have been shown to alter
neurochemical production in the brain and
this may account for their positive
effects.
Scientists
now believe that the brain has specific
responses to different frequencies of
flashing light and the different
frequencies of various colors. They point
out that sleep problems can often be cured
in one day by this method. Mood alteration
takes a little longer - about one to two
weeks of
treatments.
